Athletes of the Week
Taylor Sherwin, women’s volleyball
- Sherwin received Most Valuable Player recognition at the Miami Invitational. A senior from Orlando, Fla., Sherwin led the Buckeyes to the tournament crown, delivering 11.60 assists per set for the weekend.
Remington Lyman, rifle
- Lyman, a junior with the Buckeyes this season, represented the United States at the ISSF World Championships in Granada, Spain.
Women’s Volleyball (9-3)
The women’s volleyball team picked up its second tournamenttitle of the young season, clinching the Miami Invitational crownSaturday evening vs. the host Redhawks. The Buckeyes topped UAB andIUPUI en route to the championship match. Sherwin steered the OSUattack to a .253 attacking efficiency, 16.20 kills per set and atotal of 25 digs on her own.
Field Hockey (3-4)
The field hockey team erupted for a season-high nine goals onSunday as it defeated Appalachian State, 9-1, to close out itsthree-game homestand. Freshman Maddy Humphrey, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., notched herfirst-career hat trick.
Rifle
Lyman aided the U.S. junior men’s prone contingent to afifth-place finish overall at the ISSF world championships.Individually, he earned a score of 611.0 for 35th.
Pistol
The defending national champion pistol team kicked off its2014-15 campaign over the weekend by hosting the 12th-annual OhioCup. Freshman Glenn Zimmerman took the three-gun aggregate (1617),earning all-around Ohio Cup champion honors.
Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team took control of the No. 1 seed at theEast & West Match Play Challenge, opening up an 11-stroke gapfrom the rest of the field after 36 holes of stroke playqualifying. With the performance, the Buckeyes advanced tosemifinals of the tournament.
