MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The No. 22 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team dropped a 196.175-194.950 decision at West Virginia Sunday afternoon in Morgantown.
Ohio State started the meet on uneven bars, tallying a 49.050 to win the event. Melanie Shaffer notched a 9.850 to tie for second on the event while Victoria Aepli and Maggie Dunn each posted a 9.825. The score was a career best on uneven bars for Dunn.
Ohio State moved to vault in the second rotation and posted a 48.925. Sarah Miller recorded a 9.875 to tie for first while Tenille Funches earned a 9.825 to tie for third and tie her career best.
At the midway point, Ohio State trailed 98.150-97.975.
The Buckeyes then posted a 47.825 on floor exercise in the third rotation. Shaffer paced the Buckeyes with a 9.825 to take third.
In the final rotation, the Buckeyes tallied a season-best 49.150 on balance beam. Miller took first on the event with a 9.875 while Aepli tied for second at 9.850.
Shaffer took second in the all-around with a 39.250.
The Buckeyes host Ball State on Senior Day at 4 p.m. Saturday in St. John Arena.
