Russell Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State guard D’Angelo Russell has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the second for the Louisville, Ky., native.
In wins over Miami (Ohio) and Wright State last week, Russell averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest. For the week, Russell connected on 12 of 18 shots, including 10 of 14 from three-point range. The freshman is tied for fourth in the conference in scoring and also sits fourth in assists.

- Averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in the Buckeyes’ wins over Miami (Ohio) and Wright State
- For the week, shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the field, and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from three-point range
- Chipped in 15 points, including four three-pointers, handed out a season-high nine assists and tallied two steals against the Redhawks
- Poured in 24 points, including an Ohio State freshman record six three-point field goals (6-of-6), corralled six rebounds and swiped two steals versus the Raiders
- Currently tied for fourth in the Big Ten in scoring at 17.7 points per game, ranks fourth with 5.3 assists per contest and has converted 35 three-pointers, tied for second in the conference
- Earns his second Freshman of the Week honor
