COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a two-goal effort from sophomore Claudia Kepler, the Ohio State women’s hockey team completed a series sweep of Bemidji State Saturday in Bemidji, Minn. The Buckeyes downed the Beavers (11-8-1, 7-8-1 WCHA) by a score of 2-1, improving to 10-8-2 overall and 8-7-2-1 in the WCHA.
Ohio State got on the board at 11:58 in the first period courtesy of Kepler. Junior Julia McKinnon assisted the play, which resulted in Kepler’s sixth goal of the season. For the period, redshirt junior Stacy Danczak was credited with five saves in goal, while the Buckeyes outshot the Beavers, 11-5.
The Beavers rebounded in second, tying the game, 1-1, off an unassisted, power-play goal from Alexis Joyce. Ohio State, however, continued to hold an advantage in shots, 13-10, while Danczak recorded nine stops.
Kepler tallied the game-winner at 12:58 in the final stanza. The goal was unassisted and marked her team-high seventh goal this season. Bemidji State was unable to answer, as Danczak finished out a solid weekend in goal with eight more saves.
Overall, Danczak registered 22 saves in her seventh career start, adding to her 33 stops from last night. She played all 60 minutes of game two, while BSU goalie Brittni Mowat earned 32 saves in 59:10.
The Buckeyes went 0-for 2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. In shots, Ohio State posted a 34-23 advantage.
