Christian Frey Named B1G Second Star of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Christian Frey, a sophomore goaltender on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. A native of Arlington, Texas, Frey backstopped the Buckeyes to a win at Notre Dame Saturday.
Frey had 29 saves in the Buckeyes’ 5-1 victory over the Irish in the Shillelagh Tournament third place game in South Bend, Ind., stopping all 20 shots he faced in the second and third periods combined. He and the Buckeyes were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, including a full five-minute major.
This is the second conference weekly award of the season for Frey, who was also recognized Oct. 21, and the fourth league weekly honor of his career. He has started six games this season and has a 3.22 goals-against average, along with a .913 save percentage.
Frey and the Buckeyes (5-8-1, 1-1-0 B1G) close the first half of their schedule with a 7 p.m. game at Michigan (7-6-0, 1-1-0-0 B1G) Friday at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.
