Buckeyes Shutout Beavers, 2-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team defeated Bemidji State 2-0 Friday evening in Bemidji, Minn. In goal for the Buckeyes, redshirt junior Stacy Danczak led the team to its fifth shutout of the season with a career-high 33 saves. The Buckeyes (9-8-2, 6-7-2-1 WCHA) and Beavers (11-7-1, 7-7-1 WCHA) will conclude their two-game series Saturday at 2:07 p.m. CT/3:07 p.m. ET.
Senior Taylor Kuehl gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead off a feed from classmate Kari Schmitt at 11:33 in the first period. The power play goal was Kuehl’s sixth of the season. The Buckeye defense also held strong in the stanza, as Danczak was credited with 10 saves in goal. On the penalty kill, Ohio State went 2-for-2, countering with a power play goal on their only man-advantage opportunity of the first.
After two periods of play, Danczak and the Buckeyes continued to hold the Beavers scoreless. Danczak, who started in her sixth game of the season, added another 10 saves to her total. Bemidji State recorded a 10-5 advantage in shots for the second; however, Ohio State maintained its 1-0 lead.
The Buckeyes finished off the game with an empty-netter in the final minute. Junior Julia McKinnon posted her sixth goal of the season, which ties Kuehl for a team-high. In goal, Danczak was credited with another 13 saves.
For the game, the Buckeyes were 2-for-8 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The Beavers ultimately held a 33-14 advantage in shots and Danczak totaled 33 saves in 60 minutes of play.
