Athletes of the Week
Kam Williams, men’s basketball
- Williams, a redshirt-freshman this season, scored a career-high 23 points, including 13 in a row for Ohio State in the first half, to lead the men’s basketball team to a 97-43 victory over High Point on Wednesday.
Lisa Blair, women’s basketball
- Blair recorded the first double-double of her Buckeye career Sunday afternoon vs. Western Michigan. The redshirt-sophomore led Ohio State with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in 22 minutes. All of those numbers were career-highs.
Men’s Soccer
- Alex Ivanov, a standout goalkeeper for the men’s soccer team, was selected in nationwide balloting as the 2014 Senior CLASS Award winner in NCAA Division I men’s soccer.
- Ivanov is the second Ohio State student-athlete to be honored as a Senior CLASS Award winner. James Laurinaitis was voted as the football award winner in 2008.
Men’s Basketball (8-1)
- Ohio State followed up its win over High Point with an 87-71 routing of Morehead State on Saturday.
- The matchup with Morehead State served as Thad Matta’s 500th career game as a head coach.
Women’s Basketball (7-4)
- In arguably the squad’s best defensive effort of the season, the women’s basketball team raced out to a big lead and then cruised to a 67-52 victory Thursday over Arkansas State.
- Four Buckeyes scored in double-figures as Ohio State then rolled to an 83-46 victory over Western Michigan on Sunday.
Football (12-1, 8-0 B1G)
- Sophomore Joey Bosa and senior Michael Bennett were named first-team CBS Sports All-Americans, the organization announced Thursday.
Men’s Gymnastics
- The men’s gymnastics team opened its 2015 season with the annual Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad Saturday afternoon at Steelwood Athletic Training Facility. The Gray team defeated the Scarlet team, 271.200-263.600, earning its third win in the exhibition contest in the last four seasons.
