COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State Rifle team posted a season high 4,654 on Sunday at the Dr. John C. Fellingham Buckeye Open. The Buckeyes placed second in the collegiate field, after being out shot by TCU (4672) and beating Nevada (4610) and Morehead State (4584).
In smallbore, the Buckeyes fired a season best 2314 and were led by sophomore Deanna Binnie who fired a 583, one point off of her season high. Junior Remington Lyman (578) and freshman Mark Matheny (578), Drew Cheezum (575) and Josh Black (568) rounded out team scoring for Ohio State.
In air rifle, Ohio State fired a 2340 led by freshman Mark Matheny’s 588. Lyman (586), Cheezum (583), Black (579 and sophomore Chrissy Thomas (583) rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes.
“First of all I want to thank Dr. Fellingham for his amazing support of our program as well as all of the athletes that competed in the match over the last two weekends,” said head coach Ryan Tanoue. “With over 130 competitors, I felt the match was a resounding success and we saw some very good performances from shooters from all over the country. In terms of our team’s performance, although it was a season best I know that the team is disappointed that our overall score wasn’t up to the standard that we were expecting at this point in the season. At the same time this score does replace our previous home performance and will give us a new benchmark heading into our final two matches of the fall season at Akron next week and at Air Force on December 4th.”
Ohio State will take the short trip up to Akron to compete against the Zips next Saturday, November 22nd at the Robert A. Pin Shooting Range.
