1969 Big Ten Championship Fencing Team to be Recognized at Football Game This Weekend – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The 1969 Big Ten Championship fencing team will be recognized for their accomplishments at the football game vs. Illinois, this Saturday. Prior to the game, a reunion will be held for alumni before the game, including a meet and greet with the 1969 team and Coach Simonian.
The reunion will begin at 10a.m. with a meet and greet at Steelwood Athletic Training facility followed by a luncheon and program at the Ohio Union starting at 1 p.m. Those in attendance without a ticket for the football game are invited to a watch party held at Easy Living Deli. The event is open to all fencing alumni.
The fencing team entered the 1969 Big Ten Championships with an 11-4 record. The Buckeyes claimed their first team title in 20 years, highlighted by individual titles from Bob McCance, foil, and Dave Nauman, epee. Captain Scott Spears took second in epee, while Roland Koch earned second in foil. After a four-way tie that led to a fence-off, Ken Mitchell and Steve Broidy took third and fourth place in sabre, respectively. The Scarlet and Gray tallied 43 points to claim the title, 16 more than the runner-up Illinois.
