Ohio State Fencing wraps up competition in New York – Ohio State Buckeyes

NEW YORK, N.Y.–The Ohio State fencing team finished a weekend of competition in New York, Sunday, highlighted by the No. 5 women’s squad sweeping both the NYU Invitational and St. John’s Invitational.
During the NYU Invitational, Saturday, the women’s squad ended competition, 6-0, tallying a score of 115-39. The No. 6 men’s squad drew even, 3-3, with a final score of 86-76.
The women’s sabre unit did not lose any round, ending competition with a score of 45-9. Kimberly Young debuted as part of the sabre unit for the Buckeyes, 15-3. Fellow freshman Alanna Goldie opened her foil career at Ohio State with a 16-2 record. The women’s foil unit went 9-0 vs. No. 7 Northwestern and vs. NYU.
The Buckeyes faced only ranked teams at the St. John’s Invitational on Sunday, with the men’s squad finishing competition, 1-4, and women’s squad completing competition, 5-0. The women’s sabre unit won every round again, coming on top over No. 2 Harvard, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Penn State, No. 6 Columbia and No. 10 St. John’s.
The Buckeyes return to the strips for the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Ill., on Feb. 1. The next event hosted in Columbus, Ohio, will be the 2014 NCAA Championships on March 20 to March 23.
