Athletes of the Week
The No. 3 Ohio State rowing team captured its fourth Big Ten team title Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. The Buckeyes won five out of seven races en route to earning a championship record 160 points and the team title. The first varsity eight, second varsity eight, first varsity four, third varsity four and first novice eight crews all earned gold medals, while the second varsity four placed third to claim bronze. Five Buckeyes earned All-Big Ten honors at the conclusion of the championships, as junior Claire-Louise Bode, senior Allison Elber and junior Eelkje Miedema were named First Team All-Big Ten and senior Cori Meinert and freshman Holly Norton were named Second Team All-Big Ten. Sophomore Chloe Meyer was named the Ohio State Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Baseball (34-21, 15-9 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to No. 10 Louisville, 6-3, Tuesday evening atNick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
Troy Kuhn tallied his fifth multi-hit game of the season whileKirby Pellant tallied another multi-hit game to tie for theteam lead with 16.
Ohio State opened its series against No. 21 Indiana with a 2-1victory Thursday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium.
Zach Ratcliff finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI whileBrad Hallberg and Pat Porter each tallied a pair of hits. Ryan Riga struck out a batter over 1.1 scoreless frames toimprove to 3-0 on the year.
Porter recorded his team-high 17th multi-hit contest of the seasonwhile Ratcliff notched his first-career multi-hit game Thursdayagainst the Hoosiers. Hallberg tallied his ninth multi-hit game ofthe season and 50th of his career Thursday.
After taking a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning, Ohio State dropped a7-2 decision to No. 21 Indiana Friday evening at Nick Swisher Fieldat Bill Davis Stadium.
Aaron Gretz tallied three hits for the Buckeyes while Joe Ciamacco and Mike Carroll each recorded two.
Gretz tied a career high with three hits against the Hoosiers whileCarroll notched his seventh multi-hit game of the season andCiamacco tallied his 14th multi-hit game of the season.
Brett McKinney tossed. 0.2 scoreless frames and has allowedjust one earned run while striking out 21 in 14.2 innings pitchedover his last 12 appearances.
Ohio State dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 21 Indiana on Senior DaySaturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium.
The Buckeyes earn the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament afterposting a 34-21 overall record in the regular season, 15-9 inconference play, while the Hoosiers improve to 40-13 overall andwin the Big Ten regular season with a 17-7 record.
Pellant finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Sunday was Senior Day at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadiumand marked the final home game for Ciamacco, Ryan Cypret, David Fathalikhani, Brad Goldberg, Hallberg, Brian King, McKinney, Pellant and Greg Solomon.
The Buckeyes open the Big Ten Tournament at 3:35 p.m. CT Thursdayat Target Field against a team to be determined.
No. 3 Men’s Lacrosse (13-4)

In the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship, the No. 3 OhioState men’s lacrosse team lost to Cornell, 16-6, Saturday afternoonat Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
The Buckeyes end their season 13-4, while Cornell (14-3) advancesto the NCAA semifinals. Ohio State’s 13 wins are the most for thesquad since 1978 and the fourth-most in program history. The squadwas making the program’s second appearance in the NCAAquarterfinals and the first since 2008.
The game was the final career contest for the nine members of theOhio State senior class – co-captains Logan Schuss and Dominique Alexander along with Mark Crawford, Nick Liddil, Kevin Mack, Patrick Toohey, Patrick Riffee, Dan Wertz and Trey Wilkes. The group – all Ohio State Scholar-Athletes – ledthe squad to the first postseason title in program history, winningthe ECAC tournament title May 4, as well as the Creator’s Trophycrown, in 2013.
Schuss had a goal and two assists vs. Cornell, wrapping his careerwith a point in all 62 games for the Scarlet and Gray. He leaves asthe program’s all-time leading goal scorer (146) and ranks secondin team history with 237 points, the most since 1979. He is fourthwith 91 career assists. Schuss led the squad in goals, assists andpoints each of his four years and had a career-high 44 goals, 28assists and 72 points this season. His 72 points and 44 goals aretied for the sixth-highest total in a single season in programhistory.
Jesse King, on a 23-game point streak, scored two goals for thesquad and added an assist for a three-point day. He ends the seasonwith 32 goals, 23 assists and 55 points to rank second on the teamin all three categories.
The Buckeyes ended the season with seven wins in their last eightgames.
No. 3 Rowing

The No. 3 Ohio State rowing team captured its fourth conferencetitle Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. In atightly contested championship, the Buckeye first varsity eightclinched the team title for Ohio State after placing first in thefinal race of the morning to tally 63 points towards the team totaland championship record of 160 points and secure a programvictory.
Five Buckeye crews earned gold medals (1V8, 2V8, 1V4, 3V4 and 1N8)while the 2V4 earned a bronze medal.

No. 5 Men’s Tennis (35-3)

Ohio State men’s lost a heartbreaker to No. 1 UCLA, 4-3, in thesemifinals of the NCAA championships Monday afternoon at the KhanTennis Complex in Urbana, Ill. The Buckeyes conclude the 2013season 35-3 overall and Big Ten regular-season and tournamentchampions.
A trio of seniors in Devin McCarthy, Connor Smith and Ille Van Engelen finished their Buckeye careers.
McCarthy, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, wrapped up his Ohio Statecareer with 184 combined career wins (104-18 in singles and 80-19in doubles). Smith, a Tampa, Fla., native who joined the Buckeyesin 2012, recorded an Ohio State combined career record of 133-26(66-14 in singles and 67-12 in doubles). Van Engelen, who hailsfrom Eindhoven, Netherlands, posted a combined career record of119-32 (51-17 in singles and 68-15 in doubles).
Behind a pair of tiebreaker wins by redshirt junior Peter Kobelt, the fifth-seeded Ohio State men’s tennis teamknocked off four-time defending champion and No. 4 seed USC, 4-3,in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA championships Saturday nightat the Khan Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill.
A native of New Albany, Ohio, who is No. 8 in the latest ITA polls,Kobelt’s 7-6(3), 7-6(3) win over No. 16 Ray Sarmiento at No. 2singles sealed the Buckeye victory and helped them advance to thesemifinals for the third time in program history (2009 and2011).
Kobelt, Blaz Rola and Connor Smith will open competition in the fieldof 64 singles players and 32 doubles tandems starting May 22.
