Athlete of the Week
Men’s track and field senior Michael Hartfield turned in a new personal-best mark of 8.15m (26-9.00) in the long jump Friday evening at the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, breaking Jesse Owens’ 77-year-old school outdoor record in the process. Hartfield, the reigning Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, improved on his career best for the second week in a row to best the OSU outdoor record set by Owens in 1936 (8.13m/26-8.25) and finish second overall. The distance ranks Hartfield second on the all-time list at Ohio State behind Chris Sanders (8.17m/26-9.75) and No. 2 in Division I this season.
Baseball (16-8, 4-2 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to Michigan State, 8-7, in the opening game ofa three-game set Friday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium.
Greg Solomon went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a runscored while Pat Porter and Kirby Pellant each had two hits.
Jaron Long allowed his first walk in 24 innings when JoelFisher reached on a free pass in the top of the second.
Brett McKinney has struck out at least two batters in seven ofeight appearances this season.
Ohio State evened the series with an 8-3 victory over MichiganState Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium.
Brad Goldberg picked up the win to move to 4-0 on the seasonwhile Pellant went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI and arun scored.
Joe Ciamacco stole two more bases Saturday to improve to11-for-11 this season and 27-for-27 in his career.
After losing just their second game of the season when leadingafter six frames Friday night, the Buckeyes got back on the righttrack Saturday to improve to 13-2 on the season in suchgames.
Ohio State dropped its season finale against Michigan State, 7-2,Sunday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.

Portersingled with one down and pinch-hitter Mike Carroll walked to put runners at first and second.Jacob Bosiokovic then singled up the middle to score Porter tocut the lead to 7-1. After a fielder’s choice for the second out ofthe inning, Brad Hallberg plated Carroll with a single to left to make it a7-2 game but that’d be as close as Ohio State would get as Ciamaccohit into a game-ending fielder’s choice to end it.
Ohio State will host Youngstown State at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday andMiami at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium before traveling to Minnesota for a series April 5-7.
Men’s Basketball (29-7)

Ohio State advanced to its second consecutive Elite Eight and14th all-time in program history with a 73-70 victory over Arizonaat the Staples Center Thursday night.
For the second consecutive game, Ohio State won on a three-pointerwith 2.0 seconds or less on the clock at the end ofregulation.
At least four players scored in double figures for Ohio State forthe 11th time this season: Deshaun Thomas (20 points), LaQuinton Ross (17), Aaron Craft (13) and Sam Thompson (11).
Thomas became the first Buckeye since Michael Redd (703 points) in1998?99 to score 700 points in a season. Thomas now has 710, whichties him for fifth with Jerry Lucas who scored 710 in 1960.
With five assists against the Wildcats, Craft improved on his No. 2spot on Ohio State’s all?time list with 528.He needs 52 assists topass Jamar Butler for the No. 1 spot.
Ohio State fell to Wichita State, 70-66, in the West Regional FinalSaturday night at the Staples Center.
The loss snaps an 11?game win streak by the Buckeyes and denies asecond consecutive Final Four.
Head coach Thad Matta has compiled a record of 53?13 as a head coach inMarch, including 8?1 this season. His March win percentage is thethird?best (.803) among active coaches.
Thomas led Ohio State with 23 points, marking the 17th time thisseason he has scored at least 20 points and the fourth consecutivegame in the tournament.
Thomas averaged 22.2 points (89) in NCAA tournament play thisseason, moved to No. 9 on Ohio State’s all?time scoring list with1,630 career points, and finishes with 733 points this season, goodfor third on Ohio State’s single season list.
Ross finished with an NCAA tournament?high 19 points. He scored indouble?figures for the 13th time this season, hit twothree?pointers and has connected on 14 three?pointers over the pastseven games.
After not making an appearance in the 2012NCAA Tournament, Rosscontributed with 60 points (15.0 ppg) in four tournament games thisseason.

No. 12/13 Men’s Lacrosse (6-3, 1-2 ECAC)

Despite a career-high tying 14 saves from junior goalieGreg Dutton, Ohio State fell to No. 5 Loyola, 9-4, Saturday infront of 1,877 fans in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Senior Logan Schuss put the Buckeyes on the board just 55 seconds intothe game, extending his point streak to 54 contests. He now has 123career goals to tie Terry Gilmore (1976-79) for second in programhistory, three back of all-time leader Joel Dalgarno (126/2006-09),and moved his career point total to 196.
With the timer on early in the second quarter, Buckeye freshmanCarter Brown tied the game at 2-all with a tally, assisted bysophomore Jesse King, at 13:39. The helper extended King’s point streakto 15 games (23g, 16a, 39p).
Ohio State was outshot, 41-23, in the contest. Dutton played all 60minutes and had 14 saves, matching his total first set April 9,2011 at Hobart. He has an 8.32 goals-against average this seasonand 10 or more saves in each of his last three games, with a .676save percentage in the three games combined.
The Greyhounds won the groundball battle, 29-20. Dutton led theBuckeyes with a career-high seven, passing the four he had in sevencontests. Ohio State had six caused turnovers, with freshmandefenseman Robby Haus and sophomore attack Turner Evans each causing two.
Each team won eight faceoffs. Senior Trey Wilkes was 5-for-11 for Ohio State, with junior Darius Bowling 3-for-4. Wilkes has won 87-of-151 faceoffs thisseason, leading the Buckeyes with a 57.6 winning percentage.
Ohio State returns to action at noon Saturday when it hosts Hobartin an ECAC game in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium televised byBTN.
Women’s Lacrosse (4-6, 0-2 ALC)

Ohio State was edged by No. 4 Northwestern, 9-8, Wednesdayevening at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill., in a BTN-televisedcontest.
Ohio State led by as many as three goals in the first half and didnot trail for over 54 minutes of game action before Northwesternfinished off a 4-1 second-half run for the win. Kelsea Ayers (2g, 1) and Katie Chase (1g, 2a) each had a team-high three points in thegame, while Cara Facchina and Mary Kate Facchina added two goals apiece. Tori DeScenza made eight saves, including six in the firsthalf.
Ohio State was out-shot 24-19 for the game and narrowly trailed ingroundballs (16-13) and draw controls (10-8). Tayler Kuzma and Chase were dynamic in the center circle, eachsnaring a team-high three draws and added three and two causedturnovers, respectively.
Kaila Gottlick scored with 1:24 remaining in overtime to sendOhio State over Hofstra, 11-10, Saturday afternoon at Bert L. andIris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Buckeyes battled back from a five-goal deficit in the firsthalf off the strength of Katie Chase’s career-high, five-point (4g, 1a)performance.
The Buckeyes took care of the ball throughout the game, turning itover just eight times and going a perfect 22-22 on clears. Theyout-shot the Pride 30-26 and were tied in groundballs (20-20),while trailing in draw controls (15-10). Tayler Kuzma and Rachel Wiederkehr were the Buckeye strongholds in the centercircle, earning three and two draws, respectively.
Ohio State continues its three-game homestand with San Diego State(7 p.m., April 3) and Vanderbilt (Noon, April 7), both at JesseOwens Memorial Stadium. The game vs. the Aztecs will be streamedonline through BigTenNetwork.com, with possible re-air on BTN, andthe matchup with the Commodores will be live on BTN with Neil Sikaand former Buckeye All-American Kimberly Lowe on the call.
Rowing

Ohio State opened the 2013 season with a win in second varsityeight competition against No. 3 Princeton and No. 13 Brown Saturdayat Carnegie Lake in Princeton, N.J. In addition to the win, thefirst varsity eight, first varsity four and second varsity four allposted second-place finishes for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State earned its first win of the season in the second varsityeight race as the crew of Daphne Socha, Chloe Meyer, Silvia De Matteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicole Becks, Lauren Eckles, Meghan Birkbeck, Catherine Shields and coxswain Victoria Lazur sounded the horn in 6:51.4 to place ahead of thePrinceton and Brown crews.
Up next, the Buckeyes host the first of two home regattas thisseason, taking on No. 7 Michigan, No. 14 Notre Dame and Tennesseeon the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir at 9 a.m. April 6.
Softball (21-11, 3-3 Big Ten)

Ohio State dropped game one, 4-2, of a three-game series vs.Purdue Friday afternoon at Buckeye Field.
Ohio State fell short, 8-7, in nine innings vs. Purdue Saturday ingame two of a three-game series at Buckeye Field.
Down 6-2, the Buckeyes fought back and posted a five-run seventhinning to take a 7-6 lead as the designated away team. However, theBoilermakers (13-18, 2-3 Big Ten) were able to tie the game with arun in the bottom half and claimed the game winning run in thebottom of the ninth to earn the series win vs. the Buckeyes (20-11,2-3 Big Ten).
Offensively, Ohio State was led by freshman Cammi Prantl, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while sophomoreTaylor Watkins was 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and adouble. Sophomore Caitlin Conrad was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI,while junior Evelyn Carrillo and sophomore Maddy McIntyre both had doubles.
Highlighted by back-to-back home runs in the tenth inning, OhioState claimed the final win of a three-game series vs. Purdue,defeating the Boilermakers, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at BuckeyeField.
With two down, Carrillo and McIntyre launched back-to-back longballs in the top of the tenth to help Ohio State to the conferencewin.
Offensively the team was guided by Carrillo, who went 4-for-5 witha run scored and three RBI, while McIntyre notched a home run andwalk. Watkins was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and RBI. Overall,Ohio State outhit the Boilermakers, 9-6, in the contest.
Ohio State will next travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., next weekend toface No. 14 Michigan Friday-Sunday.
Men’s Swimming
Head Coach: Bill Wadley
After three days of competition, the Ohio State men’s swimmingand diving team concluded the 2013 NCAA Championships at the IUNatatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. in 12th place with 87 points. TheBuckeyes accumulated 20 individual All-America recognitions andwere the third-highest finishing Big Ten Conference team whileMichigan won the team title.
Adding to Ohio State’s All-America total, sophomore Tamas Gercsak placed ninth in the 200 butterfly in a new OSUvarsity record time of 1:43.54. A native of Budapest, Hungry,Gercsak already held the Buckeyes’ top time in the event, butdropped three-tenths of a second in his first NCAA championshipmeet to set the new standard.
Junior distance standout Alex Miller kicked off the evening with a personal best time of14:57.29 in the 1650 freestyle for 19th-place.
In the 200 backstroke, sophomores Connor McDonald and Steven Zimmerman each placed among the Top 30.
The Buckeyes ended their championship run with the 400 freestylerelay. Seniors Jason Schnur and Zach Holmes along with teammates Tim Phillips and Michael DiSalle picked up honorable mention All-Americaaccolades with an 11th-place finish in 2:52.92.
No. 7 Men’s Tennis (20-2, 5-0 Big Ten)
Head Coach: Ty Tucker
Ohio State improved to 11-2 vs. ranked opponents with a 6-1victory over Nebraska in Lincoln Friday afternoon.
Clinching the match for the Buckeyes was No. 13 Blaz Rola, who was a 7-6 (2), 6-1 winner over Andre Stenger insecond singles. Rola remains undefeated this season improving to15-0 in dual play and 11-0 on court No. 1.
Ohio State jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with a sweep of thedoubles matches while also taking five-out-of-six singles matchesvs. Nebraska.
First to claim victory was No. 4 Peter Kobelt, who won 6-1, 6-3 against Boyer on court two. Nextto taste victory for the Buckeyes was 59th-ranked Chris Diaz. The redshirt freshman defeated Andrew Dzulynsky6-1, 6-0.
Ohio State remains perfect in the Big Ten after defeating Iowa,7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complexin Iowa City.
En route to their 14th shutout of the season, the Scarlet and Graywon the doubles point for the 21st time in 2013.
Ohio State returns to action Wednesday for a match vs. Kentucky inLexington. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Women’s Tennis (9-8, 2-3 Big Ten)

Ohio State posted a 6-1 victory over Iowa Sunday inside theVarsity Tennis Center. The Buckeyes won two of three doublesmatches and five singles matches vs. the Hawkeyes (8-8, 1-4 BigTen).
On court 3, Ohio State’s senior tandem of Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele won the last five games en route to an 8-3 victoryover Annette Dohanics and Caitlin Hindmarsh. On court 2, theBuckeye pair of freshman Grainne O’Neill and sophomore Kelsey Dieters clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victoryover Shelby Talcott and Katie Zorandi.
Steele dropped just one game in each set to Harazin on court fourto give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead, marking her team-best 20th singlesvictory of the season.
No. 54-ranked Dieters then won against Seaborne, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1for a 3-1 Buckeye advantage. On court five, O’Neill clinched theBuckeye victory as she downed Zordani, 6-2, 7-5. Cecil came backafter dropping the first set, 7-5, to tie the match with a 6-3second-set victory and then prevailed in a super tiebreaker, 10-6.Redshirt freshman Nicole Flower closed out the match with a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win oncourt six.
Ohio State will play two conference road games next weekend,traveling to Wisconsin Friday and Minnesota Sunday.

Ohio State earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-17) win over MountOlive of Conference Carolinas Friday night in St. John Arena.
Sophomore Michael Henchy totaled a match-high 17 kills and added fourdigs to lead the Buckeyes. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Lutz had nine kills, while redshirt senior John Tholen finished with eight. Lutz and Tholen totaled fourblocks apiece, while senior Nick Gibson finished with three.
Ohio State posted a 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20) victory overLees-McRae Saturday night in St. John Arena.
Senior Chen Levitan totaled 13 kills to lead all student-athletes,while Nick Gibson added a season-high 12 kills. Redshirt sophomoreShawn Herron posted a .667 hitting percentage with seven killsin the match. Senior Grayson Overman finished with a match-high six blocks (1s, 5a)and Gibson chipped in three.
The Buckeyes will make their final road trip of the regular seasonto Romeoville, Ill., to take on Lewis April 4 at 8 p.m. ET. Thesquad then follows with a match at Loyola-Chicago April 6 at 5 p.m.ET.
