Ramsey Named U.S. Collegiate Athlete of the Year; Six Buckeyes Earn U.S. Collegiate All-America Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Paige Ramsey, a member of the Ohio State synchronized swimming team, was named the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Athlete of the Year last Saturday at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The recipient of this award is selected based on a coach’s vote at the meet. The last Buckeye to earn this prestigious award was Becky Kim in 2009.
“The Collegiate Athlete of the Year award is one of the highest honors a collegiate synchronized swimmer can achieve in their career,” Holly Vargo-Brown, head coach, said. “Paige’s commitment to academics, athletics and service makes her the perfect recipient of this award and we are so excited for her to receive this honor.”
Ramsey, along with Chelsea Aton, Lauren Nicholson, Khadija Zanotto and Katie Spada, earned U.S. Collegiate All-America honors. Junior Yuliya Maryanko was recognized as an honorary U.S. Collegiate All-American.
“The strength and depth of this program is evident with six of our student-athletes being named to the Collegiate All-America team for the 2013 season,” Vargo-Brown said. “We are extremely proud of their efforts and accomplishments.”
At the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Championships, Ramsey complemented her overall team silver medal with a second-place finish in the team routine as a member of the Scarlet Team (89.3625). The Playa del Rey, Calif., native collected three first-place trio finishes, six first-place duet finishes alongside Maryanko and four first-place team finishes during the 2013 season. Last season, Ramsey earned a gold-medal in trio with Maryanko and former Buckeye Alex Beckett, outscoring the University of Incarnate Word by two-tenths of a point, as well as a silver-medal in duet with Maryanko (87.9333) at the 2012 U.S. Collegiate Championships. As a Buckeye, Ramsey has won three U.S. Collegiate Championships and is a three-time U.S. Collegiate All-American.
