Ohio State men’s soccer shocks No. 9 Penn State, 1-0

The Buckeyes handed No. 9 Penn State its first conference loss of 2013 Saturday, topping them, 1-0, in double overtime. Despite it being senior day for OSU, it was an underclassman who stole the show.

Breast cancer had no effect on Emily Marsh-Fleming’s breaststroke. Regardless of her diagnosis, the 38-year-old kept on swimming along with about 50 other participants at the first “Sync Cancer” swim-a-thon Saturday, hosted and sponsored by Ohio State’s synchronized swimming team at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Two second-half goals in a 12-minute stretch helped the No. 8 Michigan women’s soccer team defeat visiting Ohio State 2-0 Saturday night. The loss to the Wolverines will prevent the Buckeyes from getting a chance to defend their Big Ten Tournament championship next weekend in Champaign, Ill.

Road trips to Purdue have been less than kind to the Ohio State football team in recent years — losses to the Boilermakers in both 2011 and 2009 … Saturday, though, Ross-Ade Stadium looked just fine for the Buckeyes (9-0, 5-0), as they steamrolled the Boilermakers, 56-0, to extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 21 games.

The candidates, as voted by an esteemed panel from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), are the seventh of a series of names that will be unveiled each Sunday throughout the remainder of the college football regular season.
