Men’s Varsity O Creates Lifetime Achievement Category for Athletics Hall of Fame – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Men’s Varsity “O” Alumni Association has created a new category for induction into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame, organization president Bernie Brown announced. The new category, based on lifetime achievement, will not be an annual award.
“We are extremely excited as a board to have the opportunity to recognize a fellow Buckeye for extraordinary lifelong achievements,” Brown said. “Though it may not be implemented every year, we appreciate the avenue we now have to honor outstanding former Buckeyes who have excelled in their careers after leaving Ohio State.”
The criteria for a lifetime achievement inductee is someone who has reached the highest, most exclusive level of success in his industry, sport or profession. While that success may or may not have any connection to the Varsity O letter he obtained at Ohio State, the unparalleled success the inductee has achieved in his career brings honor and recognition to Ohio State athletics and furthers the reputation of the University in significant ways. This person need not be famous. However, it must be clear he has so excelled in his profession, sport, industry or career that few have achieved, or ever will achieve, the success he has established.
Nominations for the category are currently being compiled by the Varsity “O” board, with a vote to follow on a person who may qualify.
The members of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2012 will be released later this summer. Hall of Fame ceremonies will be held the weekend of Sept. 15, with the annual dinner and induction Sept. 14 in the Ohio Union. The class will be introduced to the crowd at halftime of the Ohio State football game vs. California Sept. 15. Details on the dinner will be released at a later time.
