Ohio State Moves to Second in Directors’ Cup Standings – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With 501 points already recorded in winter, Ohio State has moved into second place in the 2011-12 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings. The Buckeyes finished in the Top 25 nationally in fencing, men’s basketball, wrestling, men’s swimming and diving, women’s track and field and women’s swimming and diving.
Ohio State leads a group of four Big Ten Conference programs ranked in the Top 10, including Penn State (3rd), Wisconsin (7th) and Michigan (10th).
The Buckeye fencing team led the way, earning 100 points with a first-place finish while the men’s basketball team earned 83 points with a third-place finish. Wrestling picked up 75 points with a fifth-place finish followed by men’s swimming and diving, women’s track and field and women’s swimming and diving with 64.5, 55.5 and 54 points, respectively
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
The final winter Division I standings will be released Thursday, April 19.
