COLUMBUS, Ohio – Competing through the rain and cold, the No. 22 Ohio State women’s golf team currently sits atop the leaderboard at its own Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus. Tallying rounds of 308 and 297 to total 605 at the par 72, 6,268-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club, the Buckeyes post an eight-stroke lead over Big Ten foes Northwestern and Michigan State who are tied for second at 613.
After 36 holes, junior Rachel Rohanna currently leads the Buckeyes and the field with an even 144. After a morning score of 75, the Waynesburg, Pa., native tallied a round two mark of 3-under 69 that included five birdies en route to her first-place standing. Leading by a five-stroke margin, her only hiccup in the afternoon came in the form of back-to-back bogeys on holes No. 5 and 6.
Also in the top 10 is freshman Kendall Prince. Tied for seventh at 153, the rookie from Lake Oswego, Ore., carded four birdies throughout the day to notch scores of 74 and 79.
With totals of 156, freshman Claudia Lim and junior captain Amy Meier are tied for 16th. Lim fired steady back-to-back rounds of 78, while Meier earned scores of 81 and 75.
Rounding out the Buckeye lineup at the 6-count-4 event was senior Vicky Villanueva and freshman Jan Chanpalangsri. Villanueva is currently in 37th after rounds of 85 and 75, while Chanpalangsri sits in a tie for 46th after scores of 82 and 81.
The top individual competitor for Ohio State after day one is junior Susana Benavides who is tied for 12th. After opening with an 81, the Cochabamba, Bolivia, product improved with a 74 in round two.
Also competing as individuals are sophomore Alex Brown and freshman Sheridan Balyeat. Brown carded scores of 90 and 85 to sit in 66th, while Brown opened with an 84 before being disqualified in round two for a scoring error.
The third and final round will take place tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
