No. 6 Buckeyes to Face No. 3 Michigan, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Oregon State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State rowing team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for its second road regatta of the season Saturday and will compete against No. 3 Michigan, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Oregon State on Belleville Lake. The Buckeyes will face the Wolverines and Sooners in the morning session at 9 a.m. and will row against the Ducks and the Lady Volunteers in the afternoon session which is slated to being at 1 p.m.

Moving on Up
Ohio State is now sixth in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll released Wednesday. Ohio State was previously ranked seventh and is one of five Big Ten teams in the Top 20. Michigan (3), Wisconsin (11), Michigan State (15) and Minnesota (19) rank in the Top 20.

Boat of the Week
The First Varsity Eight was named the Big Ten Conference Co-Boat of the Week for the week of April 10. Ohio State shared the honor with Michigan’s First Varsity Eight. It is the first weekly laurel for the Buckeyes this season and first since 2009.
The First Varsity Eight of Ellen Heister, Claudia Herpertz, Eelkje Miedema, Allison Elber, Ilse Paulis, Emily Walsh, Ulrike Denker, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Amanda Poll recorded two victories in the Big Ten Double Duals against Minnesota (6:51.0) and Wisconsin (6:45.5) April 7, improving its record to 5-0.
The 1V8 is winning its races by an average time of 8.46 seconds. At the Big Ten Double Duals, the 1V8 won by 13.5 seconds over Minnesota and 4.6 seconds over Wisconsin. The win over Minnesota was the largest margin of victory of the season thus far.
The First Varsity Eight has also recorded victories over Notre Dame, Yale and Michigan State this season.
Strong Start
The then-No. 7 Buckeyes continued their strong start to the season by beating Big Ten foes Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Big Ten Double Duals April 17. Ohio State defeated the Badgers in the first session, 43-26, before defeating the Gophers, 44-25. The Buckeyes recorded nine wins in a total of 12 races for the day. Good Times
Each of Ohio State’s three championship boats (First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Four) is winning its races by an average time of more than eight seconds. The 1V8 is winning by an average time of 8.46 seconds, while the 2V8 is beating their opponents by an average margin of 11.50 seconds. Finally, the 1V4 is crossing the finish line by an average of 11.07 seconds over the second-place finisher.

Postseason is Near
The Buckeye postseason will begin in nearly a month May 13 at the 2012 Big Ten Championships. The head-to-head regatta will begin promptly at 9 a.m. in Indianapolis, Ind. The NCAA championships will take place May 25-27 in Mercer, N.J.

Ohio State will return home for its final home regatta of the season and will face Harvard, Virginia and Clemson April 28 on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir. The morning races are slated to begin at 9 a.m. against Harvard and Virginia, with races in the afternoon session scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the Buckeyes rowing against Clemson.
