BTN Presents All-Access Big Ten Basketball Tournament Coverage
BTN tips off a long weekend of Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament (#B1Gtourney) coverage with the Big Ten Tournament Preview live from Bankers Life Fieldhouse tonight at 8 PM ET. The network will also broadcast four Big Ten Tournament games, beginning with No. 8 seed Iowa taking on No. 9 seed Illinois in Game 1 at 11:30 AM ET Thursday, followed by No. 5 seed Indiana facing No. 12 seed Penn State. On Friday, the network’s coverage continues at 6:30 PM ET with second-seed Michigan facing the winner of Game 3 (No. 7 Northwestern vs. No. 10 Minnesota), followed by Game 8, featuring No. 3 Ohio State against either No. 6 seed Purdue or No. 11 seed Nebraska. Gus Johnson will call the action with Shon Morris serving as the color analyst along with Lisa Byington reporting from the sidelines.
As always, the network will go well beyond the games with news, press conferences, highlights, and in-depth analysis. The network will have a live studio presence in Indianapolis during the tournament, with Dave Revsine, Jim Jackson and Gary Williams on-site.
Before the games begin on Thursday and Friday, BTN will televise a 30-minute Auto-Owners Insurance Tip-Off Show to discuss the latest storylines and get viewers ready for that day’s action. During BTN games, the studio team returns with halftime analysis. At the end of each day, coverage continues with The Big Ten Finale, presented by Reese’s, featuring post-game reaction and analysis from Indianapolis.
Every Big Ten Tournament post-game press conference also will be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network. In addition, BTN.com’s Tom Dienhart, Brent Yarina and the Big Ten Geeks will be live-blogging from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

‘Selection Sunday Special’ to Dissect NCAA Brackets
BTN tips off 2012 NCAA Tournament coverage with Big Ten Basketball and Beyond: Selection Sunday Special at 7 PM ET on Sunday. The 90-minute program will dissect the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament pairings for each Big Ten team and examine the potential for a Big Ten team to reach the Final Four in New Orleans. BTN analysts Jim Jackson and Gary Williams join host Dave Revsine live from Chicago with Rick Pizzo, Mike DeCourcy and Shon Morris providing segments from Indianapolis.
In addition, the network will provide extensive coverage and analysis with Big Ten Basketball and Beyond: Tournament Edition shows throughout the NCAA Tournament, beginning Monday at 8 PM ET.
Sunday’s ‘Journey’ episode is BTN’s highest rated-ever
Sunday’s episode of The Journey: Big Ten Basketball 2012 was BTN’s highest-rated original program, according to Nielsen metered market data. The Emmy-nominated series following the Purdue-Indiana men’s basketball game earned a 1.16 household rating in the network’s eight metered markets.
The episode featured senior night festivities at four universities, including Michigan, which honored Zach Novak and Stu Douglass; Ohio State, recognizing William Buford; Purdue, with Robbie Hummel, and Iowa, which honored Matt Gatens.
“The Journey really captures the emotions of the players and coaches and shows us all a side of them that people rarely see. That’s what makes the storylines so compelling,” said BTN President Mark Silverman. “And the good news is that we still have one more episode to go this season.”
The Journey’s final episode airs at 8 PM ET on Wednesday, March 14, and will feature senior nights at Wisconsin and Michigan State; the Michigan State-Ohio State end-of-season thriller; the emotional reunion of Illinois sophomore center Meyers Leonard and his brother Bailey, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps who recently returned from active duty; and behind the scenes at this week’s Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis.
Before Sunday, BTN’s most-watched non-event program was the Sept. 18, 2010, episode of Big Ten Icons featuring Charles Woodson.
Also on Sunday, the Big Ten Icons: Coaches debut of the Bob Knight episode that followed was Icons’ highest-rated 2012 debut and the third-highest-rated Icons’ episode overall, behind the Woodson episode and the Jan. 15, 2011, show featuring Jerry Lucas.
Network to Air Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships
BTN continues its winter championships coverage with the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships at 1:30 PM ET on Saturday from Lincoln, Neb. Indiana captured the men’s Big Ten Crown, while Nebraska earned the women’s title.
On the men’s side, the Hoosiers totaled 104 points over the two-day event. Minnesota finished second with 100 points and Nebraska was third with 99 points. Ohio State finished fourth with 94.3 points, while Wisconsin compiled 75 points to round out the top five in the final team standings.
On the women’s side, the Huskers totaled 114.5 points, while Ohio State and Penn State finished second and third with 106 and 99 points, respectively. Illinois was fourth with 79 points, and Michigan State finished with 77.5 points to round out the top five.
