Athletes of the Week
The Ohio State fencing team captured the program’s fourth NCAA Championship March 24 inside French Field House. Ohio State sophomore foilist Zain Shaito captured his first NCAA championship with a 15-11 win over Stanford’s Turner Caldwell while sophomore epeeist Katarzyna Dabrowa also claimed her first NCAA championship.
Baseball (12-10, 1-2 Big Ten)

Ohio State fell to No. 22 Louisville, 20-0, March 20 atPatterson Stadium.
Ohio State topped Dayton, 11-7, March 21 at Woerner Field.
Ohio State dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 24Purdue March 24 afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill DavisStadium. The Boilermakers took Game 1, 8-5, before winning Game 2,8-1.
Ohio State won a back and forth battle with No. 24 Purdue, 5-4,March 25 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
No. 7 Men’s Basketball (31-7, 13-5 Big Ten)
Head coach: Thad Matta
JaredSullinger scored 23 points with 11 rebounds and Ohio Stateturned back Cincinnati’s last charge with a 17-1 run to beat theBearcats 81-66 March 22 and advance to the NCAA regional finals forthe first time since 2007.
Sullinger recovered from first-half foul trouble to score 19 pointsand grab seven rebounds, helping Ohio State beat top-seededSyracuse 77-70 March 24 to advance to the Final Four in NewOrleans.
Fencing

KatarzynaDabrowa, a sophomore epeeist, claimed her first NCAAchampionship March 23 in St. John Arena on the Ohio State campus.Overall, the Buckeyes saw five fencers earn All-Americaaccolades.
Building off a nearly flawless, 13-1 first day March 24, Ohio Stateredshirt junior Max Stearns cemented Ohio State’s fourth fencing NCAAchampionship and sent the decibel levels soaring inside FrenchField House with his fifth and final touch against Yale’s NathanielBenzimra in the seventh round at 11:08 a.m. March 25.

Tying for the low team score of the day with a 284, Ohio Statemoved up three slots to conclude the Mountain View Collegiate inthird. Totaling 871 at the par 72, 6,227-yard Mountain View CountryClub, the squad’s third round performance and total was its lowestof the season.
No. 6 Men’s Gymnastics

No. 6 Ohio State tallied a 344.500 team total to place third ina tri-meet against No. 1 Oklahoma (353.100) and No. 5 Minnesota(350.600) March 24 at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis,Minn.
No. 13 Women’s Gymnastics
Head coach: Carey Fagan
No. 13 Ohio State finished second at the Big Ten Championshipswith a 196.225 March 24 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The second-placefinish is the best for the Buckeyes since 1989.
Sophomore Sarah Miller earned first team All-Big Ten honors for thesecond consecutive season.
Men’s Lacrosse (4-5, 2-0 ECAC)

TurnerEvans, a freshman midfielder on the Ohio State men’s lacrosseteam, was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week March19.
Ohio State fell to No. 6/7 Notre Dame, 8-7, March 21 after theirrally came up short at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in front of 932fans.
Behind seven points from Logan Schuss and 13 saves from Greg Dutton, Ohio State moved to 2-0 in the ECAC with a 13-2victory over Bellarmine March 24 in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.The game marked Senior Night for the Buckeyes, who were closing outa six-game homestand.
No. 12 Women’s Lacrosse (7-2, 0-1 ALC)

Paced by Alayna Markwordt’s 10 points, No. 12 Ohio State downed St.Bonaventure 15-8 March 19 at McGraw-Jennings Field in St.Bonaventure, N.Y.
Kirsten Donahue tied her season high with four goals, includingthree in the second half, but No. 12 Ohio State dropped a 10-8decision to fifth-ranked Florida March 24 at Jesse Owens MemorialStadium.

No. 13 Ohio State had an impressive performance winning all sixraces against Notre Dame March 24 on the Scioto River at GriggsReservoir.

AliciaHerron was named Big Ten Player of the Week March 19 afterleading the Ohio State softball team to a 3-0 mark at the TSUClassic over the weekend in Nashville, Tenn.
Ohio State dropped two games in a doubleheader at No. 13/14Louisville March 20 at Ulmer Stadium to conclude its 2012 springbreak trip. The Cardinals won the first game 7-0 before winning thesecond game 7-2.
In the 2012 home opener, Ohio State split a doubleheader againstIndiana March 24 at Buckeye Field. The Buckeyes won, 4-3, in eightinnings in game one before falling, 4-1, in game two against theHoosiers.
Ohio State claimed its first series win of the season afterdefeating Indiana, 7-3, in game three March 25 at BuckeyeField.
Men’s Swimming and Diving

Ohio State concluded its season March 24 with a 12th-placefinish at the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving championships held atthe Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.The Buckeyes, who earned a team total of 106 points, finished theweekend with 22 individual All-America recognitions.

No. 2 Men’s Tennis (19-2, 3-0 Big Ten)

In a match between Top 5 teams, No. 2 Ohio State lost 4-3 tofourth-ranked Georgia March 22 at the Dan Magill TennisComplex.
In a match between Top 25 teams, No. 2 Ohio State defeated21st-ranked Indiana (13-4) 6-1 March 25 at Indiana UniversityVarsity Courts in Bloomington. With the victory, the Buckeyes movedto 3-0 in the Big Ten this season, extending their conference winstreak to 82 matches.
Women’s Tennis (5-11, 0-3 Big Ten)

Despite a surge during singles to claim a 3-2 lead, the66th-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decisionat home to No. 27 Purdue March 23.

Ohio State opened competition at the UCF Invitational March 23at the UCF Track and Field Complex in Orlando, Fla. Alexis Thomas turned in a first-place mark of 57.46m (188-6) inthe hammer throw to lead the Buckeyes on day one. Teammate Maggie Mullen was fourth at 55.65m (182-7).
Men’s Volleyball (14-8, 4-3 MIVA)

Ohio State fell 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21) at QuincyMarch 23 in a MIVA match.
After dropping the series opener March 23, No. 9/10 Ohio Staterebounded with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) win at Quincy in a MIVAmatch March 24.
