COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12 Ohio State women’s golf team kicked off its spring schedule with a round one score of 296 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge held at the par 71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, California. The Buckeyes are tied for fourth among the competitive 15-team field.
Top-ranked UCLA is in first with an even score of 284, while No. 18 Duke is second with an 8-over 292. No. 39 Denver is third (295), while the Seminoles of Florida State are tied with the Buckeyes in fourth. Denver’s Rachel Watton concluded the first round with a field-best 4-under 67.
Junior Susana Benavides concluded the first day with a 1-under 70 and is tied for third overall. The Cochabama, Bolivia, product opened with three birdies on the first nine holes to hold a 2-under before making the turn. With bogeys on Nos. 2 and 5, Benavides countered with a birdie on No. 7 to finish with a 70.
Junior captain Amy Meier finished tied for 11th with a 1-over 71 and totaled four birdies on the day. Junior Rachel Rohanna shot a 3-over 74 and is tied for 22nd, while freshman Kendall Prince is tied for 63rd with a 9-over 80. Senior Vicky Villanueva concluded the day with a 10-over 81.
Freshmen Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim, competing as individuals, are tied for 54th and 71st, respectively. Chanpalangsri shot a 7-over 78, while Lim finished with an 11-over 82 in her first collegiate tournament.
The Buckeyes open the second round Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8:50 a.m. PT.
