Postgame Quotes
Mark Osiecki, Ohio State head coach
On not scoring in the first period
“We had to keep forcing things forward after not scoring in the first period. It’s inevitable that you’re going to try and go with some different looks after having so many scoring opportunities. We had some good looks but we just couldn’t get any to go in.”
On the team’s scoring drought
“Before tonight, we had pucks going in that weren’t tonight. We’re going through the growing pains that I knew we would have to face at some point this season with 12 freshmen – eight in the lineup tonight. Michigan is a top five team in the nation in my opinion, and we put ourselves in a position to win. We are still a better club right now than we were yesterday.”
On the game Sunday in Cleveland
“Hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy the day Saturday, first and foremost. We are going to get up there, get acclimated, and embrace the setting. We’ll have a good practice and there will be a family skate afterwards, so hopefully it will be a good experience overall for the team.”
Sean Duddy, Ohio State senior defenseman
On the game
“We got a lot of shots on goal tonight and we did some things better than last weekend, but I do not think there is such a thing as a moral victory. We are going through a funk, but the team’s morale is not down.”
On Michigan
“They are a talented team. They work hard and have similar skills as our guys. It was a pretty even game, but they did a better job capitalizing their chances.”
Red Berenson, Michigan head coach
On scoring the first goal
“I think it was important the way the game started that we get the first goal. They were making plays early, but getting on the board first on the road in front of a good crowd, playing a good team — one of the best in the nation — was important.”
On Ohio State’s response to the early goals
“I thought they really pushed and made our defense work hard when we were having some breakdowns in the zone. I think the game could have gone either way if they had scored the next goal.”
Shawn Hunwick, Michigan senior goaltender
On his shutout and control of the game “I actually didn’t have a good warm-up. I wasn’t seeing the puck well at all, and they got one early off the cross bar, but once I settled in I felt comfortable and in control.”
On his improved play on the road
“I think with experience you learn to play better in front of big crowds. Playing in big games at the Frozen Four last season really prepared me well for hostile environments.”
