Ohio State Finishes Second at Mary Fossum Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team opened the 2011-12 season with a second-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Competing on the par 72, 6,236-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course, the Buckeyes chipped in a final round of 303 to total 907.
Host Michigan State sat atop the 12-team leaderboard by a 15-stroke margin with a 54-hole total of 892. The Spartans were led by Caroline Powers who claimed medalist honors with a 217 (+1).
Leading Ohio State was senior Vicky Villanueva. Firing a third round score of 74, the Chacabuco, Argentina, native concluded the tournament tied for eighth at 226.
With a final score of 78, junior Susana Benavides tied for 13th at 229. Also in the Top 20 was freshman Jan Chanpalangsri who tied for 18th at 231 after a final round of 77.
Finishing 24th at 232, junior Amy Meier struggled in the final round with an 83. One stroke back from Meier was freshman Kendall Prince who finished her first collegiate tournament tied for 25th at 233 after a round of 74.
Up next, the Buckeyes will head to Chicago, Ill., for the Windy City Invitational Oct. 3-4.
