Claire-Louise Bode Advances to Semis of U23 Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Claire-Louise Bode, a member of the Ohio State rowing team, paired with Kate Christowitz in the first heat of the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Amsterdam Wednesday and the duo finished second to advance to the semifinals.
The tandem, who is representing the Republic of South Africa, will resume action Friday on the Bosbaan Regatta Course. Joining Bode and Christowitz in the semifinals are the Netherlands, Australia, Czech Republic, United States, Romania and Bulgaria. The Top 3 crews from each heat advanced.
Bode and Christowitz finished in a time of 7:25.31, only .83 seconds behind Germany’s Sara Davids and Miriam Davids (7:24.48).
Bode and Christowitz jumped out to a two-second advantage after the first 500 meters (1:45.15-1:47.12), but the German duo picked up the pace the next 500 meters and took a .01 lead (3:37.36-3:37.37). At the 1,500-meter mark, the Davids increased their gain to 2.62 seconds before Bode and Christowitz began a late push the final 500 meters.
Rounding out the Top 3 was Greece’s Vasiliki Ntalamagka and Eleni Diamanti.
Thursday, France’s Alice Mayne and Melanie Cornille, along with Latvia’s Anete Risa and Vineta Moca will row in the repechage.
