Natalie Gaylard, Yuliya Maryanko Crowned Figures Champions – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team continued action at the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championships Friday with the team semifinal and technical segment. Hosted by Canisius College at the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness Center in Buffalo, N.Y., the championships’ last day Saturday will feature the anticipated solo, duet, trio and team finals.
The Buckeyes, two-time defending champions, are looking to secure their 27th U.S. Collegiate title.
The day began promptly at 8 a.m. with the technical and figures portion. Freshman Natalie Gaylard was crowned the ‘B’ Technical champion with her 67.936. Gaylard’s mark was an impressive .639 points more than Leigh Haldeman’s 67.297 (Stanford).
Freshman Yuliya Maryanko was crowned the ‘A’ Technical titlist after earning a mark of 81.533. In second place was Saki Fujise of Incarnate Word (81.164). Of the 22 Buckeyes who are on the 2011 roster, 19 competed in the ‘A’ Figures competition.
Concluding the evening was the team routine semifinal in which the Buckeye Scarlet and Gray teams placed second and fifth, respectively. The Scarlet squad of Chelsea Aton, Alex Beckett, Colleen Courtmanche, Lauren Nicholson, Paige Ramsey, Lauren Robinson, Deborah Shim and Michelle Theriault recorded a 92.500. An 88.750 was awarded to the Gray team of Raquel Aguado, Kayley Colville, Monica Finnigan, Caitlin Hoffman, Katie LaBounty, Jenny Mann, Liana Litsky and Lara Tutton.
Action will continue bright and early Saturday at 7:45 a.m. starting with the duet final.
