Postgame Quotes
Jim Foster, Ohio State head coach
On the first half and adjustments
“We were running the wrong stuff in the first half, we were playing a zone and then we switched to a man to man which was better. I think we relied on three pointers too much in the first half.”
On Kalpana Beach fouls
“The third foul was a fluke. She thought a shot had been taken and next thing you know she got underneath a player but we still played her even with three fouls and kept her involved.”
On turnovers
“I think we were just throwing some long passes and we weren’t in the right spaces and that’s why we were off.”
Tayler Hill, Ohio State junior guard
On the game
“We didn’t come out with any energy. We were too relaxed and we didn’t have the right mindset heading into the game. We have veteran guards and we know we have to pick it up”
On missed layups
“We missed about 15 layups – four for me. We have to concentrate more in making easy baskets.”
On if she thought the game was ever in doubt
“Oh no. We know we just needed to stay focused and play our game. That’s what we need to keep doing this whole season. We can’t look past Stony Brook for LSU. Last year we didn’t know much about Duquesne and they came in here and beat us. So we just need to keep our focus and we’ll be fine.
Amber Stokes, junior guard
On the team’s energy in the second half
“I think as far as what Coach Foster said in shootaround, we were just fooling around in the second half. We picked it up and realized what we needed to do.”
On teammate Darryce Moore
“I think it’s very important Darryce makes an impact. You can see a big difference in her from last year. She’s more confident, she’s passing better and she’s patient. We need our post players. We can’t just be all guards. I’m proud of her.”
On the team’s focus during the game
“I think collectively as a team we have to come out focused during those first five minutes. We have to come out and focus and finish the game. During practice tomorrow we’re going to work on the little things.”
On facing Stony Brook
“You can’t underestimate a team. They probably have some good post players and guards. We have to play as a team and come out hard.”
On Howard
“The team had some pretty good players. No. 13 [Saadia Doyle] was good. Coach Foster said she was a good player. We have to pay attention to the scouting report and look it over before the game. I know we say this a lot, but we have to stay focused.”
Darryce Moore, sophomore forward
On her performance
“Their players were smaller than me so it was easier to score. I used my size to score. My teammates did a good job finding me.”
On facing Stony Brook
“Next game we have to remember not to underestimate our opponent. We have to come out hard and play our game at stay focused like we said.”
