Ohio State Finishes Third at Windy City Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team concluded the Windy City Invitational in third after an even final round of 288. Securing a 54-hole total of 884 on the par 72, 6,333-yard Glen View Club in Chicago, Ill., the Buckeyes finished two strokes out of first and placed better than seven Top 50 squads, including No. 1 Texas.
For the second-consecutive day, Oklahoma State maintained is slot atop the leaderboard with a total of 882, one stroke ahead of second-place Arizona. With sums of 2-under 214, Oklahoma State’s Kelsey Vines and Arizona’s Isabelle Boineau shared medalist honors.
Firing a career-low round of 2-under 70, junior Susana Benavides shot up in the standings to finish sixth at 217. Notching three birdies in the final round, the Cochabamba, Bolivia, native’s only hiccup came in the form of a bogey on hole No. 15.
Opening the day with a birdie on her first hole, junior Amy Meier concluded the round with a 74 to tie for 11th at 221.
One stroke back from Meier at 222 was freshman Kendall Prince who fired her second round of 73 to finish in 19th.
Also finding a round under par with a score of 71 was junior Rachel Rohanna. Closing the round with a birdie on hole No. 18, the Waynesburg, Pa., product finished tied for 21st at 224.
With final scores of 78, senior Vicky Villanueva and freshman Jan Chanpalangsri also competed for the Buckeyes. The Buckeye’s individual competitor, Chanpalangsri, tied for 46th at 230, while Villanueva tied for 53rd at 231.
Up next, the Buckeyes will get a preview the 2012 Big Ten championship course as they compete at the Lady Northern Invitational in French Lick, Ind., Oct. 10-11.
