CARY, N.C. – Two members of the Ohio State women’s soccer team, Cassie Dickerson and Paige Maxwell, have been named 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-Americans, the NSCAA announced Friday. Dickerson garnered first team honors, the first in program history, while Maxwell was named a third team All-American.
“It’s wonderful for our entire team and how well they have performed to get to this point this season,” head coach Lori Walker said. “What Cassie and Paige have done as bookends on the attack and defense has set the tone for this team and they are each very deserving of the honors they have received.”
Dickerson, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, has started all 23 games for the Buckeyes anchoring a defense that has recorded 12 shutouts in 2010 after 13 a year ago. After battling back from multiple knee injuries, the three-time captain has helped lead the Buckeyes to a 31-7-4 record over the last two seasons in games she has started. She also has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
“It’s a great accomplishment to be named a first team All-American but there is no way I could have earned this without the help of my teammates and coaches,” Dickerson said. “I’m so thankful to all of the girls I have played with and the great players that have played in this program before me and have paved the way.”
Maxwell, the Offensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten, led the Buckeyes and tied for second in the conference with 10 goals, including five game-winners, and added a pair of assists. The junior has led the team in goals in each of her three seasons and ranks seventh in program history with 24 career goals.
“I’m very honored and blessed to be named an All-American but none of this would have been possible without the help of my team,” Maxwell said. “It’s a great award but our job’s not done yet. We still have more that we want to accomplish as a team.”
The Buckeyes take on Notre Dame in the NCAA semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday in Cary. The match will be televised live on ESPN2 and ESPNU.
