COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ross Homan, a senior linebacker on the Ohio State football team, met with the media Tuesday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to preview the AllState Sugar Bowl. The Buckeyes (11-1) will face Arkansas (10-2) at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, La.
A 2010 First-Team All-Big Ten honoree, Homan finished the regular season with 63 tackles in 10 games for the Buckeyes this year. A three-year starter at linebacker, Homan has collected 278 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss with seven interceptions since joining the team in 2006. The native of Coldwater, Ohio, Homan has been a major factor in a Buckeye defense that ranks second in total defense (250.5 ypg), fourth in rushing defense (94.3 ypg), fourth in pass defense (156.25 ypg), third in scoring defense (13.3 ppg) and are tied for third in turnover margin (+1.17).
“We’ve played some unbelievable offenses in bowl games in past years like Texas and Oregon and we are just taking the same approach with Arkansas,” Homan said. “Arkansas has a great offense and has the best quarterback we will face all year. We are taking that as a huge challenge for our defense and working on that every day in practice.”
The game vs. the Razorbacks marks the 11th consecutive season Ohio State will be playing in a bowl game – the longest streak in the Big Ten – and even more impressively, the game represents a national record ninth Bowl Championship Series (BCS) game and sixth consecutive for Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 5-3 in BCS games, which is tied with Florida for the second-most BCS wins behind USC’s six.
