Preseason Continues with Scarlet & Gray Intrasquad – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its final exhibition before winter break, the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team continue its preseason with the Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. John Arena.
At the exhibition, the Buckeyes will compete on all six Olympic events in front of the public to simulate the environment at regular-season competitions.
Ohio State, who finished fourth a season ago at the Big Ten championships, has been tabbed third by the conference coaches in a preseason poll and ranks sixth nationally. Ohio State returns nine letterwinners, including three All-Americans from the 2010 campaign.
The Scarlet and Gray are working out in St. John Arena as much as possible this season to become accustom with the environment in hopes that their preparation will pay off as they host the 2011 NCAA Championships April 14-16.
BUCKEYES RANK THIRD IN BIG TEN PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was placed third in the 2011 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Preseason Poll, the conference announced Wednesday. Senior co-captain Brandon Wynn and senior Sean Regan were named to the 2011 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list. Michigan earned the top spot followed by Illinois, while Penn State, Minnesota and Iowa round out the league’s preseason standings.

WYNN, HARDY NAMED 2011 CAPTAINS
Senior Brandon Wynn and sophomore Elliott Hardy were named co-captains from the 2011 season, interim co-head coaches Doug Stibel and Blaine Wilson announced.
Wynn, the 2010 NCAA and Big Ten rings champion, had a summer to remember after being named to his second U.S. national team after claiming the U.S. national rings title at the 2010 VISA Championships Aug. 14 in Hartford, Conn. Wynn, who also finished third overall in the all-around competition, also earned a spot on the U.S. World Team, competing at the 2010 World Championships this past fall in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This is the second time Wynn has been named co-captain in his Buckeye career.
Hardy, a native of Plano, Texas, competed in four regular-season meets for the Buckeyes last season after redshirting in 2009. Highlighting his first season of competition was on vault after posting a team-best 15.75 vs. Oklahoma March 13 in Columbus. Hardy, who was a member of the U.S. National Development team, also competed on floor exercise for the Scarlet and Gray last year.

Following winter break, Ohio State has its final preseason exhibition at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 at Steelwood Training Facility. The Buckeyes open the 2011 campaign at the Windy City Invitational Jan. 15 in Chicago, Ill.
