Taz: A Star on and off the Field – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Record-setting Ohio State soccer goalkeeper Lauren “Taz” Robertson is shining on the field this season for the Buckeyes and she recently starred off the field as well, helping a local fundraiser raise over $2,000 for the fight against breast cancer.
Robertson, who set the Ohio State career record with her 23rd shutout last Friday vs. Toledo and then upped it by one Sunday vs. Toledo, helped Granville High School raise more than $2,000 for breast cancer research. Robertson did her part by taking her customary position in the nets while people paid a dollar to try and score from the penalty kick area against her. The shots-on-goal effort raised more than $90 toward the final total.
The organizers were most appreciative that Robertson took time from her busy schedule, which includes studying for her degree in psychology/sociology, to participate in the event.
“You serve as a great role model for all of my teammates, opponents, female soccer players and myself in the way you carry yourself and represent your team in such a positive manner,” Shoot for the Cure founder Emma Butler wrote to Robertson.
“My family has always been big fans of the Ohio State women’s program, and after meeting you, we are even bigger fans of the team and you. Thank you for your willingness to stay until the last person took a shot.”
Robertson, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., spent some time talking about her community service projects and also about the Buckeyes’ outstanding season to date. Click on the audio link above to hear her interview.
Ohio State, 7-1-1 and ranked 21st by the NSCAA and 25th by Soccer America, opens Big Ten Conference play Sunday at 1 p.m. against Michigan at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Admission is free.
