Blogging the Buckeyes: Courtney Jenkins Part II – Ohio State Buckeyes

Friday was another great day for the Ohio State women’s soccer team. It started off with our typical set pieces practice. Although it wasn’t the best one we have had this year, we were still pretty confident for our game that night vs. Youngstown State. After the short session, we headed to the Faculty Club for our team lunch. The usual pasta, rolls, and vegetables that were served were definitely missed while we were out on the West Coast. We were on our own for the afternoon to relax before pregame meal at Noodles at 4 p.m. Most of the team took naps or just hung out and watched TV. We all gathered at Noodles for the team meal and loaded up on carbs for the evening game. Next, I headed to the Biggs Athletic Training Room to get treatment and to start preparing for the game. It was so great to be back home where everything was familiar: the training room, locker room, and of course The Jesse.
The game against Youngstown State was a huge success. With it being our fourth game in eight days we knew our legs wouldn’t quite be there. However, this didn’t stop us. Paige Maxwell was able to get our first goal off of a Lauren Beachy cross in the ninth minute. Paige had an outstanding game and would score an additional two goals in the match. Lauren Granberg added two more goals and Kendyl Reed one for the 6-0 victory. Throughout the game, we had a lot of chances on goal and we capitalized on them very well. We had a tremendous amount of energy despite the previous tough week! It was great to play at home in front of our fans and to get another victory.
Because of the successful past week, we were rewarded with having several days off. Saturday was the Ohio State vs. USC football game so campus was a very crazy atmosphere. Early that morning some of the team met in our locker room to make signs to take to College Gameday. We walked over to St. John Arena and actually made our way to the front row of all the fans!!! Taz and I could actually be seen holding up one of our signs on TV. It was a lot of fun! After the show ended, we walked back to Biggs (where our locker room is). I ended up spending the afternoon with Cassie and Steuy (Lauren Steuer) at their apartment. We ate, watched football, and took naps to prepare for the game that night. Around 5 that evening we headed back to campus to experience the great atmosphere. We all had tickets to the game, and I must say that it was an unbelievable experience. The stadium was covered in scarlet and the fans were energetic for four quarters. It was very heartbreaking that we came up short; however, I will never forget the excitement of that game.
On Sunday I slept until 11:30 and was a couch potato most of the day. I needed the extra sleep and free day of nothing! On Tuesday of this week we will begin our preparation for the upcoming games against North Texas and Toledo. Both of these are at home so I hope to see everyone there! We would love your support !
GO BUCKS !
