Buckeye head coach reflected on his trip to visit troops overseas in June
Jim Tressel, entering his ninth season at Ohio State, has an 83-19 overall record with the Buckeyes, five Big Ten titles and a national championship under his belt, but Tuesday at the 2009 Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon he spoke less about the wins and losses as opposed to the perspective he gained while overseas visiting U.S. troops in June.
Jim Tressel excerpts from Tuesday kickoff speech:
“It is fun to watch a new group of guys who take very seriously the obligation and responsibility they have to represent Ohio State and the Big Ten. When you lose the type of leadership that we’ve had in the past couple years, there is a great challenge for the folks like Jake Ballard, Kurt Coleman and Doug Worthington and that group to step up.”
“This is a reminder that what we do is pretty darn important. What we do touches a lot more people than you might think it does. What we do is pretty darn special. At Ohio State, we will work like crazy to try and represent the Big Ten.”
