Bhavsar waits for official FIG approval of parallel bars release
COLUMBUS, Ohio Raj Bhavsar, a 2008 U.S. Olympian and Ohio State gymnast from 2000-2003, debuted an original release move on the parallel bars at the 2009 World Stars in Moscow May 30.
Prior to the event, the skill was reviewed by the FIG Men’s Technical Committee and received a preliminary E skill ranking. It is expected the new skill will be named the Bhavsar, but will not be official until it appears in the FIG Men’s Technical Committee’s newsletter.
The 10-time All-American and 2002 NCAA all-around champion was the runner-up on parallel bars in Moscow with a score of 15.05, trailing Mitja Petsovsek of Slovakia who won with a 15.625. Also competing on rings, Bhavsar tied Timur Kurbanbayer of Kazakhstan for fourth with a tally of 15.0. The top score on rings was a 15.6 from Yury Van Gelder of the Netherlands.
