Five members of the Ohio State women’s track and field team will represent the Buckeyes at the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Championships June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark. Letecia Wright (100m Hurdles) is lone individual competitor, while Latoya Sanderson, Ashley Caldwell, Ayrizanna Favours and Shaniqua McGinnis will compete in the 4x400m relay.
The Ohio State men’s team also sends five competitors to the NCAA Championships, with athletes in running (400m, 800, 1500m), field (shot put) and multi-events (decathlon) for the first time in several seasons. Ohio State fans were never hard to find during Coaches Tour 2009, a morale-boosting mission that brought NCAA football coaches to U.S. servicemembers overseas. Ohio State coach Jim Tressel even found an Air Force security forces dog named Bertha at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, who was happy to wear a token of appreciation from the coach. The dog’s handler, Staff Sgt. David Tagliaferro, is an Ohio native. Coaches Tour is organized by Morale Entertainment, LLC., in association with Armed Forces Entertainment. By Corey Morrison, wrestler – After the season ended I started to realize I was going to graduate soon. It is very exciting to see a phase of my life coming to a close. I had more responsibility than ever this spring helping SAAB (Student-Athlete Advisory Board) with the talent show, the mother’s 5k, 2nd and 7 volunteering and other activities. But I have confidence I can handle anything after experiencing the demands of Ohio State athletics and the math department. Ohio State demands excellence across the board, not just in the classroom or on the mats but also in community service. Once again the talent show was a hit with the community and we raised a record amount this year.

Friday Rumblings Columbus Dispatch – Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel and the other six coaches touring the Middle East aren’t getting hotel points for their stay in Iraq.
According to the UCLA Web site, coach Rick Neuheisel called to report that the seven coaches on the trip were sharing one room in one of Saddam Hussein’s former palaces — and sleeping in bunk beds.
More from Iraq: Tressel made a good impression on a private contractor who happens to be a friend of The Daily Oklahoman‘s Berry Trammel. The friend had nice things to say about all seven coaches, but Tressel seemed to make a particularly good impression:
“Very polite and friendly, has that professor-type appearance on TV and also in person. Very knowledgeable about most subjects but doesn’t come across as smarter than you.”

Besides the players and coaches, there is a group of dedicated, hard-working video technicians. They spend a lot of time to make sure that visuals are entertaining for players, coaches and, most importantly, the fans.
Athletic compliance office keeps athletes on track OSU Lantern – “The thing so many people think is that we’re here to report violations and slap people on the hand they view us as the police,” said Chris Rogers, assistant director of Ohio State’s Athletics Compliance Office. In effort to set the record straight, Rogers insists that policing is not what the Athletics Compliance office is for – that the bulk of their time is spent educating staff, coaches and students to help the athletics department operate at ease.

Two fans, however, paid big bucks to see the Buckeyes battle up close and personal.

A visit by six NCAA Division 1-A college football coaches, including Nutt of Ole Miss, filled the bleachers in the Southside Fitness Center on Friday afternoon with sports fans of all ages some a bit nuttier than others for their favorite team.
Mack Brown and Ohio State University’s Jim Tressel drew the longest lines of the day.

Henry Bautista wasn’t one of the U.S. service members seven NCAA football coaches visited at a U.S. military hospital in Germany Friday.
That’s because servicemembers are not the only ones risking their lives in dangerous places like Iraq. That’s where Bautista, a field representative for a light armored vehicle contractor, was three days prior when a vehicle mishap almost severed his leg.
That’s where Coaches Tour 2009 comes in. It’s a morale-boosting mission that brings NCAA coaches to U.S. servicemembers. For men and women serving overseas, the tour doesn’t just bring them icons of college football . It brings them a little piece of home.
