Bowyer Named NSCAA Third-Team All-American – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior midfielder Ashley Bowyer has been named a third-team All-American, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Tuesday.
The Aliso Viejo, Calif., native became the fourth player in Ohio State history to be named an NSCAA All-American following Lara Dickenmann (2004), Melissa Miller (2003, 2004) and Jodie Stranges (1996).
“Ash has been a consistent and pivotal part of our success over her career,” head coach Lori Walker said. “She has always made the success of our team her top priority. I am so proud of her for all she committed of herself and to our development. All-America recognition as a senior is a wonderful final chapter in her story.”
A 2009 first-team All-Big Ten selection, Bowyer helped lead the Buckeyes to the NCAA tournament and a ranking as high as No. 11 nationally, scoring four goals and dishing out five assists in 2009. The two-year captain started 82 career games, fourth-most all-time at Ohio State, and ranks fifth on the career assists list with 16. Last week, Bowyer received her third Academic All-Big Ten award.
In addition to the All-American honor, Bowyer and junior defender Cassie Dickerson were named first-team All-Great Lakes Region while senior goalkeeper Lauren Robertson was placed on the third team. The Buckeyes were also honored with an NSCAA Team Academic Award, posting a team grade-point average above 3.0.
