Athletes of the Week
• Justin Farra, a junior on the men’s swimming and diving team, swam to four NCAA “B” qualifying standards while winning both the 200 and 400 individual medley events in the six-team Ohio State Invitational. He also took second and fourth in the 200 and 100 breaststroke events, respectively.
The Clarksville, Ohio, native set a new school record with a time of 1:45.66 to lead a one-through-six Buckeye sweep in the 200 IM with all six swimmers hitting an NCAA “B” qualifying standard. He later was part of four Buckeye swimmers to swim under 2:00.00 in the 200 breast. He personally accounted for 72 non-relay points to help the Buckeyes win their own invitational for a second year in a row.
• Devon Krogh, a freshman defenseman on the men’s hockey, was +6, not on the ice for a goal against, had a goal and an assist and blocked two shots in the Buckeyes’ split with Michigan last weekend. Friday he was +5 and on the ice for all five Buckeye goals in a 5-3 win. He scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, breaking a 2-all tie, to mark his first career goal. It was the first time a Buckeye was +5 or better since Nov. 9, 2001. Saturday, Krogh assisted on the Buckeyes’ extra attacker goal that cut the lead to one in an eventual 2-1 loss.
Krogh now is +10 on the year and leads the Buckeye rookies with five points, including four assists. His plus/minus leads all CCHA rookies and is second among CCHA defensemen.
