POSTGAME NOTES
TEAM
- The 2009 Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup of Ohio State and Florida State was the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams. The Buckeyes are now 4-0 vs. the Seminoles.
- The Buckeyes are participating in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the eighth-consecutive year and are now 3-5 in the event. Ohio State moves to 35-25 vs. the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tonight’s game was the second league member faced this season for Ohio State. The Buckeyes fell short in a 77-73 loss to North Carolina earlier in the year.
- The last win against a ranked non-conference opponent at home was a 68-66 win vs. No. 16 Tennessee Jan. 13, 2007, when the Buckeyes ranked fifth in the country.
- Ohio State is 15-5 all-time when ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press Top 25. The Buckeyes are now 53-42 all-time in games when both teams are ranked.
- The Buckeye win claims the Big Ten a 6-5 record vs. the ACC in the event this year. It is the first time the Big Ten has won the event in its 11-year history.
- Ohio State is now 89-10 all-time and 6-1 this season when scoring 70 points or more.
- For the game Ohio State shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the field and 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from the three-point line.
- Ohio State went on an 11-point run in 2:28 span midway through the second half. Ohio State led the entire game vs. the Seminoles.
- The Buckeyes went on a 10-0 run at 17:06 to begin the first half of play. During the run, Jon Diebler went 2-of-4 from the three-point line.
THAD MATTA
- Thad Matta’s Buckeyes are 31-4 in the month of December. Under Matta, Ohio State has not lost more than one game in the month per season.
- Under Matta, the Buckeyes are now 11-7 all-time vs. ranked opponents at home. The last win at home vs. a ranked opponent came Feb. 7, 2009 with a 64-58 victory against No. 19 Minnesota.
- Matta improved his career record to 234-78 in his 10th season all-time as a head coach. He is 133-47 in his sixth year at Ohio State.
- Ohio State led 31-20 at the half. Matta is 111-15 when leading at halftime as head coach for the Buckeyes.
- The Buckeyes made 12 three-pointers, marking the 62nd time 10 or more have been made in one game since the shot was instituted for the 1986-87 season. Matta’s Ohio State teams are 37-8 when making 10 or more three-pointers in a game.
JON DIEBLER
- Junior guard Jon Diebler was 6-of-12 from three-point land against the Seminoles. Diebler finished with 22 points, tying his season-high. He scored 22 points against Alcorn State in the season opener. Diebler has made at least one three-pointer in every game this year. He has also claimed at least 17 points in three-consecutive games.
- Diebler has made at least one 3-pointer in the last 10 games as a sophomore last year and the first seven games this season. The last time Diebler went scoreless from behind the arc was Feb. 14, 2009, in a 0-of-3 effort against Wisconsin.
- Diebler has 10 3-pointers combined in the first half of the last two games with a 10-of-15 mark. He went 5-of-6 against St. Francis (Pa.) Nov. 28 and 5-of-9 in the first half tonight. He now has hit at least five 3-pointers in 14 career games, including three games this year.
- Diebler now has five of the top 8 single game 3-pointers made in school history. On this day one year ago, he made six 3-pointers in the 2008 Big Ten/ACC Challenge Dec. 2 at Miami. He was 6-of-12 from long range in the 73-68 win.
EVAN TURNER
- Junior guard/forward Evan Turner scored a team-high 25 points and 13 rebounds with six assists against Florida State. Turner now has six double-doubles in seven games this season for the Buckeyes. He became the 44th OSU player to surpass 1,000 career points against Saint Francis (Pa.). He now has 1,029 points in three seasons with Ohio State.
JEREMIE SIMMONS
- Senior guard Jeremie Simmons scored 14 points, going 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Simmons has had at least one 3-pointer in the last four games. He has scored in double-digits in three-consecutive games this season.
