Former Buckeye Corey Elkins Plays in First NHL Game, Scores First Goal – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Corey Elkins, who finished his four-year career with the Ohio State men’s hockey team last year, made his NHL debut Dec. 15 as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2. Elkins scored his first NHL goal in his second game, tallying at Calgary Dec. 17.
The Kings recalled the 6-3, 216-pound forward from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League Dec. 14.
Elkins, 24, is currently Manchester’s co-leader with 19 points and eight goals (8-11=19). He also shares the team lead with three power-play goals. Elkins’ 19 points also is tied for eighth in the AHL among rookies, while his eight goals are tied for fifth among AHL freshmen.
A native of West Bloomfield, Mich., Elkins spent the previous four years at Ohio State. Last season, his senior year, Elkins recorded 41 points (18-23=41) in 42 games. His 41 points and 18 goals led Ohio State and his plus-24 rating co-led the team.
Elkins was signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 31, 2009. He wears No. 47 with the Kings.
