Turning a new corner: OSU guard takes on new challenge
OSU Lantern – As if Evan Turner didn’t do enough already. In the game of basketball, guards typically handle the ball and pass, forwards shoot and score and centers rebound and block shots. So what position is Turner, who led Ohio State in points, rebounds, assists, 3-point percentage and steals a year ago? “He would be your hybrid point forward, whatever those announcers call those guys,” coach Thad Matta said.
With roster intact, OSU meets lofty expectations as season arrives
OSU Lantern – For the first time since 2005, the hype surrounding the Ohio State men’s basketball team has nothing to do with incoming freshmen. It has nothing to do with recently departed stars and nothing to do with “what could have been.” The Buckeyes, who had become all too familiar with players leaving early for the NBA, return all but one player from last year’s team and have zero incoming freshmen.
Buford looks to build off brilliant freshman season
OSU Lantern – Being Big Ten Freshman of the Year might satisfy most – but not William Buford. The Toledo native is determined to make his name known and has been working to become a better player in the offseason. Buford had an opportunity last season to get more minutes after an injury ended the season for junior David Lighty.

OSU Lantern – The Big Ten may be slipping in national prominence for football, but men’s basketball is on the rise. The dominance of the Big Ten in men’s basketball began in the 2005 NCAA tournament. Big Ten teams occupied five spots in the NCAA tournament, three of which made it to the Elite Eight: Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

OSU wins hockey shootout
The Columbus Dispatch Ohio State rallied twice to tie Notre Dame 2-2 in regulation and won a shootout 2-1 in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game in South Bend, Ind. Hunter Bishop scored on a power play in the first period for the Buckeyes (2-5-1, 1-2-1-1). Zac Dalpe added a power-play goal in the third period. In the shootout, John Albert and Bishop scored for OSU. Ohio State plays host to Northern Michigan on Friday and Saturday in Value City Arena.
