Head Coach Linda Lichter-Witter and Soloist Barbara Nesbitt Honored at US Aquatic Sports Banquet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio State synchronized swimming head coach Linda Lichter-Witter was named 2009 United States Synchronized Swimming Coach of the Year at the 2009 United States Aquatic Sports banquet held September 19 in Rosemont, Ill.
Lichter-Witter led the Buckeyes to their 25th collegiate national title last season and Ohio State’s first-ever high-point title at the 2009 Senior National Championships. She owns a .967 (556-18-1) winning percentage as she enters her 15th season at the helm of the Scarlet and Gray. Lichter-Witter was also named head coach of the national team for the 2009 FINA World Championships held in July. The team placed seventh in the team routine.
“This is my 40th year of coaching,” Lichter-Witter, who started coaching at age 19 to help put herself through school, said. “It was a great feeling to be recognized and I’m thankful to all the amazing athletes and great mentors who helped me get to this point.”
Senior Barbara Nesbitt also received high honors when she was named 2009 USA Synchro Athlete of the Year. The Riverside, Calif., native earned multiple first-place solo finishes including capturing the top spot at the 2009 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships with a mark of 93.750.
