First place on the line for OSU field hockey
OSU Lantern – The No. 15 Ohio State field hockey team will square off with No. 8 Michigan State for first place in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes will head to East Lansing for their meeting with the Spartans Friday at 3 p.m. OSU is currently second in the Big Ten with a 3-1 conference record and the Spartans are alone in first with a 3-0 record.

Volleyball team hosts pair of Big Ten foes
OSU Lantern – The No. 36 Ohio State women’s volleyball team is now one of seven Big Ten squads in the Top 40. They are ranked above the No. 40 Purdue Boilermakers and No. 67 Indiana Hoosiers, their two opponents this weekend. Their rise in the rankings is a result of the Buckeyes defeating Michigan State in East Lansing, 3-1, last weekend.

OSU Lantern – The Ohio State women’s soccer team is four games away from a Big Ten championship, but don’t tell coach Lori Walker. “I’m not concerned about it at all,” Walker said. The coach is not talking about a championship just yet, but with her team tied with Penn State atop the Big Ten standings, winning the conference is a real possibility.

Plain Dealer – Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor namedropped LeBron James on Wednesday as one of the people he’d turned to during his struggles this season. After Wednesday’s exhibition game at Ohio State between the Cavaliers and Boston Celtics, James explained how he’s aided the OSU sophomore.
“It’s a personal relationship. I’ve been trying to mentor him and trying to get him through life in the spotlight, which I’ve been through,” James said.

James said he has been speaking to Pryor on the phone in recent weeks to try to help him deal with celebrity at a young age. James knows something about that, since he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated under the headline “The Chosen One” while he was still in high school in Akron, Ohio.

OSU started off its season on a low note by getting swept in a two-game series by the unranked Quinnipiac Bobcats at the Schottenstein Center.
