Student-Athletes Celebrate Scarlet and Gray Day – Ohio State Buckeyes

Participants in all 36 Buckeye varsity sports were honored at halftime of Minnesota football game at Ohio Stadium Saturday, current Buckeyes who competed as Olympians also were recognized
COLUMBUS, Ohio For the third year in a row, Ohio State student-athletes from all 36 varsity sports were invited to participate in the Scarlet and Gray Games celebration at halftime of the football team’s meeting with Minnesota Saturday at Ohio Stadium.
Hundreds of student-athletes from all 36 teams were announced before the Ohio Stadium crowd. At halftime, each squad proceeded to fill in the middle of a “Block O” configuration formed by members of the OSU Marching Band.
Team and individual champions were highlighted in all sports. Following the team announcements, four current Buckeyes who reached the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, were honored at midfield.

- Itai Chammah Israel men’s swimming
- Niksa Roki Croatia men’s swimming
- All 2008 Ohio State Olympians were be recognized with a scroll on the stadium scoreboard
The Ohio State Athletics Department, in conjunction with Ohio State’s Student-Athlete Activities Board, puts on the Scarlet and Gray Games events in all sports.
To build the student-athlete community, all Buckeyes are encouraged to show support for their fellow student-athletes by attending each team’s Scarlet and Gray game. The overlying theme of the event is based on “student-athletes supporting student-athletes.”
The football game against Minnesota was the first Scarlet and Gray Game of the season.
