COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State senior forward Lisa Collison is the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in two Buckeye wins over the weekend.
The Niagara Falls, Ontario native and graduate of Saint Michaels scored five points in the wins, including the winning goal in overtime of the team’s 2-1 win over Louisville. She also set up the tying goal in the 82nd minute of the game, sending a cross into the box that freshman Taylor Moront “headed” into the net. In the team’s 3-1 win over Evansville Friday, Collison came off the bench and in less than two minutes scored to give the Buckeyes some breathing room and a 2-0 lead.
Collison’s goal against Louisville was the ninth-game winner of her career. Charging forward, Collison was first to reach a ball that was chipped over the defenders by teammate Ashley Bowyer. Once there, Collison sent a lovely ball up and over Cardinal keeper Chloe Kiefer that rolled into the net for her 31st career goal.
“It’s exciting [to score the game winner],” Collison, a human development major, said. “I have been working hard on my composure in the box and it’s my responsibility as a forward to score for the team. We had a couple good looks early in the overtime that didn’t get through, but Ashley gave me a great ball from the middle and I was able to put it in.”
Collison, just the third Buckeye to reach 30 goals for a career, ranks second all-time with 31 goals and trails only Lisa Grubb (35 goals from 2001-06). Collison’s 72 career points rank fourth all-time at Ohio State.
Collison and the Buckeyes host Wright State at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. They travel to Indiana for a 1 p.m. game Sunday that will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
