Soccer: Robertson Named Midwest Keeper of the Year – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State standout soccer goalkeeper Lauren Robertson was named the Women’s Premier Soccer League’s (WPSL) Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year and she was joined on the all-Midwest soccer team by Buckeye Lauren Steuer. Both players played for the Ohio Premier Soccer Club this summer.
Robertson, who will be a junior for the Buckeyes this fall, didn’t allow a goal this season for Ohio Premier on her way to being named Goalkeeper of the Year. Ohio Premier went 6-1-1 in its inaugural season in the WPSL, a 51-team national women’s soccer league with five conferences.
Robertson, a psychology and sociology major from Mission Viejo, Calif., returns this fall to Ohio State where she is vying to be the starter for the third consecutive season. She ranks second all-time at Ohio State with a 1.08 goals-against average and she sits in third place on the all-time saves list with 176. In 2007 she was twice named the Big Ten defensive player of the week. She made the Big Ten all-tournament team as well.
Steuer, a sophomore from Cincinnati who is exploring majors at Ohio State, comes off a 2007 freshman season in which she garnered team defensive MVP honors and played a team-high 15 complete games.
Ohio State’s women’s soccer student-athletes, coming off a fourth NCAA tournament appearance in the last six years, open fall camp Monday, Aug. 11. The team will scrimmage against Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and then open its 2008 season with an August 27 match at UW-Milwaukee.
