Athletics: Ashley Cole Joins Ohio State Athletics Training Staff – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ashley Cole has been named an assistant athletic trainer in the Ohio State Department of Athletics, Doug Calland, head athletic trainer, announced Thursday. Cole returns to Ohio State where she completed her undergraduate studies after earning her master’s degree in exercise and sports science with a specialization in athletic training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cole’s primary responsibilities will include working with the rowing and women’s volleyball teams.
During her two years at North Carolina, Cole’s primary sports responsibilities were wrestling and men’s and women’s track and field. In addition, Cole worked as a licensed athletic trainer in the physical therapy and athletic training (PT/AT) clinic at the campus health services facility which provided care for the general student and faculty population. Additional duties included administrating medical services for the Fetzer Athletic Training room which served 600 varsity student-athletes as well as the general student and faculty population.
While attending Ohio State from 2003-2006, Cole’s clinical assignments included the cheerleading, football, men’s lacrosse and women’s tennis teams. Her primary responsibilities included preventive care, treatment of athletic injuries and day-to-day independent team management.
Cole also has extensive research experience. In her two years at North Carolina, Cole was a part of three separate research initiatives. Her master’s thesis, “The Spine and Scapula Stabilizing (S3) Brace Has an Effect on Posture and Muscle Activity in Overhead Athletes with Poor Posture” discussed objectively whether the S3 brace improves posture and whether or not it affects EMG activity during shoulder exercises.
Additionally, Cole was a research assistant in the Triangle United Soccer Association (TUSA) ACL Study (March 2007-08) and Joint Undertaking to Monitor and Prevent ACL Injury (JUMP ACL) Study (July 2007).
Cole also acted in the teaching capacity at North Carolina and Ohio State, serving as a teaching assistant for various athletic training and fitness courses. She also has experience working at athletics department summer camps and leagues.
Cole was active in the UNC Chapel Hill Sports Medicine Review Committee and the University’s Exercise and Sports Science Departmental External Review in 2007. At Ohio State, she was a member of the athletic training club.
A member of the National Athletics Trainers’ Association, Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association and North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association, Cole earned her master’s degree in May 2008. She completed her undergraduate studies with a bachelor’s of science degree in allied medical professions in June 2006.
