Rowing: Gabriele Albertaviciute Earns CRCA All-America Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Gabriele Albertaviciute of the Ohio State rowing team was named to the 2008 Division I Pocock First-Team All-America roster, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Tuesday. Albertaviciute, a senior in 2008, becomes one of just three Buckeye rowers to earn first-team accolades twice during their career.
Also a 2007 first-team recipient, Albertaviciute joins current assistant coach Diana Albrecht (2004 and 2005) and Maxi Meissner (2001 and 2003) as two-time Ohio State honorees.
Albertaviciute has two First-Team All-Central Region honors to her credit as well, earning her first award in 2007. Before the 2008 NCAA Championships, the Vilnius, Lithuania, native was honored by the CRCA again.
After leading the First Varsity Eight to a runner-up finish in the Grand Final at the Big Ten championships this past May, Albertaviciute garnered her second-consecutive First-Team All-Big Ten honor. For her career, Albertaviciute, who was a second-team honoree in 2006, is a three-time All-Big Ten recipient, joining Connie Kirsch (First Team 2000, 01, 02) and Meissner (First Team 2001, 03 and Second Team 2002) with that Ohio State distinction.
In 2008, Albertaviciute also became a four-time letterwinner for the Scarlet and Gray, an accomplishment only 19 other Buckeyes have achieved.
Albertaviciute continued to excel in the classroom in 2008 as she was named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big Ten honoree and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
