Synchronized Swimming: Buckeyes Qualify Five Routines to Finals of U.S. National Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Five Ohio State routines advanced to the finals of the 2008 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships Friday at the University of Arizona Rec Center Pool in Tucson, Ariz.
With the completion of the technical routines Friday and free events Thursday, the Top 8 finalists for each event were determined. Fifty percent of each score from the free and technical routines is combined to establish the overall score.
After finishing fourth in the solo technical competition with a 91.833, Barbara Nesbitt earned the same overall standing when her technical and free routine scores were added (92.333). Nesbitt compiled a mark of 92.833 Thursday in the free routine.
There will be two Ohio State representatives in the duet competition Saturday. Caitlin Stewart and Michelle Theriault paired up to finish sixth overall, recording a 90.500. Earning the same score in the duet free routine Thursday for sixth place, Stewart paired with Carmen Moraes Friday and the two Buckeye swimmers scored a 90.500 in the technical event, which was good for eighth.
The other Buckeye pair to qualify for action Saturday was Leah Pinette and Hannah Shively. Nesbitt and Pinette partnered in the technical routine for a 92.000 for fifth place. When added to Pinette and Shively’s free routine score of 88.667 for 10th, the pair of Pinette and Shively combined for a mark of 90.333 (seventh place).
Both the Scarlet and Gray squads will compete in the finals, finishing third (95.000) and tied for fifth (91.833) overall, respectively, in the team competition. After their first-place finish in the free routine, Thursday (95.333) team Scarlet, comprised of Michelle Benzie, Jayme DeLancy, Moraes, Nesbitt, Pinette, Deborah Shim, Stewart and Theriault, finished third in the technical elements with a score of 94.667. The Gray squad of Kaitlin Bolt, Julia Broadfoot, Liz Derr, Jackie Mundy, Brooke Paul, Shively, Emilie Siemer and Kendra Sollars compiled a 91.000 in the technical event.
Action at the 2008 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships will conclude Saturday with the event finals beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET.
