Synchronized Swimming: Buckeyes End Weekend Long Competitions with Second and First-Place Finishes – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Competing in back-to-back competitions Saturday and Sunday, the Ohio State synchronized swimming team finished second and first at the Keuka College Invitational and Keuka College Tri-Meet, respectively, in Keuka Park, N.Y.
A strategic move by Buckeye head coach Linda Lichter-Witter, Ohio State sent only some members of the Gray squad to Keuka Park. Despite the limited number of Buckeyes in action, the Scarlet and Gray was able to compile a total of 170 points during the weekend.
In its first-place finish in the tri-meet with 86 points, Ohio State outdistanced Keuka (72) and Wheaton (48).
The Buckeyes swept every event, which included the Gray’s squad 89.750 in the team competition. The squad is comprised of Kaitlin Bolt, Julia Broadfoot, Erin DeMarco, Liz Derr, Jackie Mundy, Brooke Paul, Emilie Siemer and Kendra Sollars. Rita Gillan and Diana Care serve as alternates.
The trio of Bolt, Mundy and Paul tallied an 87.250 to edge teammates Gillan, Monica Finnigan and Care’s 87.000 for first in the trio competition.
The pair of Asia Luke and Tayler Stachowicz was the lone Buckeye representatives in the duet, but still scored a first-place finish with a mark of 87.500.
Freshman Hilary Deason recorded her first collegiate solo win when she earned 86.750 points. DeMarco also performed a solo routine and scored an 84.250 for fourth-place.
In the Buckeyes’ second-place finish in the invitational (84 points), Ohio State earned four Top 3 finishes. Bolt, Mundy and Paul executed a second-place trio routine that scored an 86.333. That performance was followed by Gillan, Finnigan and Care’s 85.333 for fourth.
In the duet, Luke and Stachowicz were third, recording a mark of 85.500.
Deason’s 87.500 in the solo event was good for second, while the Gray team’s 92.167 also placed them second.
Canisius won the invite with 98 points. Keuka was third with 77 points, while Wheaton scored 66 points.
Ohio State will go on a two-week hiatus before it returns to the pool to host the North Regional Championships at 2 p.m. March 1 in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
