COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s soccer celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with the Oct. 5 game vs. Northwestern designated as the game to raise awareness for the disease. Freshman forward Paige Maxwell, whose mother, Melinda, was one of the team’s five honorary captains for the game and a breast cancer survivor, scored the only goal just 2:19 into the game and the Buckeyes made it stand up the final 87-plus minutes for a 1-0 win over Northwestern.
Maxwell’s goal came just moments after she presented her mother with a pink rose as the honorees, including sophomore midfielder Courtney Jenkins’ mother, Debbie, were honored on the field. The Big Ten Network produced a story about the day and, in particular, about Maxwell’s goal.
